Adrian Pinder Scout & Leader 1978 to 1990 I joined 1st Norton in 1978 at the age of 11 and was a member until 1990. I was an assistant leader for a few years until moving to 6th Stockton as a Venture Leader and Been involved with the Communication team until 1998.
I also helped with the cubs and was involved with the first trip to London.
But the Scout troop was were I belonged I can honestly say it was the best time of my life.

Brian Cattermole Cub, Scout, Venture, Leader & Committee Member 1961 to 1997 Fantastic time throughout my scouting life have fond memories around the camp fire with Skip and Mrs H. Great times on troop night when we made twists and burnt bangers. could talk for ever look forward to meet everyone again

John Blackburn Cub, Scout, Venture & Helper 1959 to 1968 Camping, helped with the cubs, John Holmes was cub leader and doing the gang shows.

Vaughan Evans Cub & Scout 1954 to 1959 Fantastic memories of my time with 1st Norton scout troop. I was saddened to hear that Norman Huckle had died at the grand age of 94. He and his wife Annie were special people who were true scouters and leaders. I remember the wonderful games and camp fires that Norman arranged. As a young cub these always ended up in a wood or quarry where the senior scouts would pretend to be thieves or smugglers. Norman would then arrange for a grand attack on the seniors for us to save the day. I also remember as a young cub being allowed to help build the old scout hut.(built out of bricks from the remains of Norton mill) Norman will also be remembered for his wood carvings. If you wore a woggle carved by Norman you felt like one of the elite. Congratulations 1st Norton on achieving 100 years of scouting. Vaughan Evans.

Andrew Williamson Scout 1979 to 1983 I had many memories of the scouts, including the wonderful camps, the opening of the new scout hut, the scavenger hunts, too many to mention. I only visited the old mill once before it was knocked down to make way for the new road. I left in 1983 to join 1st Fairfield ventures where I was a member till 1986, when I left the area to pursue the career of a chef. Where I’m currently at Hartlepool hospital.

Colin Williamson Scout 1976 to 1979 Plenty of memories, Morris Critchley was skip, I was involved with various scout groups till the middle 90,s.

Martin Wheeler Scout & Venture 1981 to 1990 Great memories.
As a Scout: The camps, all of our gear and all of us loaded into the back of a removal van for a mystery tour to the camp and then proper camping: no stoves and lots of fun.
As a Venture Scout: Pybus, Operation Escape, the Communications Team.
Great times.

John Franks Cub & Scout 1984 to 1991

Loved all of my time in cubs and scouts, some memories that stick out are:

- Brian Clarke being baptised with a cow turd by Trotter (Reeth)

- Young lad called Murdoch having a severe bout of diarrhoea whilst on a day-hike, we all wondered why he wouldn't sit down on the mini-bus back to camp. His pants were last seen floating down the river, he decided they weren't worth saving

- Busting my lip open when hit by a water container whilst loading the van the night before a Glaisdale camp (1987?)

- Trotter's numerous dodgy cars (the purple morris marina with the broken speedo)

- Making balloons with plaggy bags and cotton wool soaked with parafin, it was only a matter of time before we set the field alight.

- Have you seen the muffin man?
- Getting the Chief Scouts award with Stuart Edwards.

- Making air bombs with the empty pop bottles on the fire.

- Beck Football.

- That '*?@#!¬ lonely tree at Newbiggin.

- I look forward to attending the celebrations this year, well done to all and keep up the good work.

Simon Swan Scout 1977 to 1982

fantastic enjoyment even putting tents up on a rainy 1st night camp in a howling gale in July 1977 in Glaisdale. My dad was also number 2, 3 or 5 to Maurice Critchley.

look forward to here from anybody.
do your best.

Ronnie Bowron Scout, Venture & Leader 1976 to 1988 Lots of fab memories.

Andrew Chapman Cub, Scout, Venture & Leader 1972 to 1982

I still remember fondly my days with 1st Norton, The Highlights:-
- Going camping in the back of a removals van sat on wooden benches - seat belts...we didn't even have seats!

- The old mill and the gas lamps that attempted to light the place.

- Moving to the new scout hut...with hindsight it was a shame to lose the mill but we loved the new place.

I live in New Jersey and my son moved from cubs in to scouts last month. I was a cub scout leader for a few years but work overtook everything so now I just take them camping, (unless I can avoid it)

Keith Ryan Scouts & Leader 1959 to 1965 A very important time of my life, growing up and being influenced by the likes of 'Skip', lots of fun at camp in various places, learning all the time, very formative years, I look back with great affection.

Colin Mickleburgh Venture & Leader 1961 to 1968 I joined the "Seniors" in 1961 having moved to Norton from East Anglia. I later became an Assistant Scout Master, I have wonderful memories of The Mill and just the terrific times we had during that period. More importantly my memories of the Huckle family, truly a wonderful family and representing the very best of what family life was and the traditions of scouting was and is.
